Parian Spirit was born out of real-world necessity.

In 1995, while working at Universal Studios, Maro Parian noticed a serious problem: makeup artists had no safe, effective way to clean their brushes on set. Existing products were either harsh, toxic chemicals like dry-cleaning fluid, or detergent-based cleaners that took far too long to dry. Neither option was suitable for performers who needed clean brushes immediately, multiple times a day.

Inspired by an inventor friend and guided by conversations with professional makeup retailers, Maro and her husband Levon set out to create a better solution.

The result was Parian Spirit, a revolutionary makeup brush cleaner that removed oily makeup quickly, dried fast, and was gentle enough to preserve high-quality brushes. Made from food-grade materials (with the exception of denatured alcohol), the formula was designed to be strong enough for professionals yet safe enough to be used directly by entertainers themselves.

From Hollywood Sets
to Industry Standard

Parian Spirit’s first client was Universal Studios. Soon after, Paramount Studios began purchasing the product in five-gallon containers while filming Star Trek. Makeup artists loved that a single product could clean oily makeup, remove adhesive residue from wigs and prosthetics, and replace both acetone and toxic dry-cleaning chemicals.
Word spread quickly throughout the industry and Parian Spirit became a staple on professional sets.

Clean. Condition. Disinfect.

With a background in microbiology, Levon Parian focused on something few people were talking about at the time: cross-contamination.

Passing bacteria from face to face through unclean brushes was a serious but overlooked issue. Parian Spirit was formulated not only to clean brushes, but also to disinfect them; helping protect both artists and clients.

This philosophy became our mission and slogan:
Clean. Condition. Disinfect.

Today, disinfecting brushes is considered a standard practice in makeup artistry. Parian Spirit helped lead that change.
