Professional Makeup Brush Cleaner

History

A
In 1994 Maro Parian noticed a need for a quick drying, non-toxic makeup brush cleaner. Ideally, a cleaner strong enough to remove the makeup off brushes yet gentle enough not to damage expensive bristles. Most of the cleaners at that time devoted to makeup brushes were either made from dry cleaning fluid and were very toxic or were made from detergents and would take time to dry. Encouraged by an inventor friend, Levon Parian, Maro’s husband, developed a product that revolutionized the industry; using citrus as it’s active ingredient, it cleaned oil based makeup extremely well and was made from food grade materials making it safe to use. It also dried quickly for professional makeup artists who needed to use a lot of brushes over and over again. At that time, special effects makeup artists would use acetone to remove the glues from masks and hairpieces, and dry cleaning fluid to clean the oily makeup. Parian Spirit took the place of both chemicals and quickly was in high demand. It was and still is regarded as the state of the art for professionals in the industry.

With a degree in microbiology, Levon was interested in the effect Parian Spirit had on disinfecting the brush so as not to pass bacteria from face to face.  It was important the formulation of Parian Spirit was able to “clean, condition, and disinfect” makeup brushes. That became the company slogan and mantra; to educate makeup artists about the importance of a clean and disinfected brush. Now everyone talks about disinfecting as a routine part of his or her brush care.

By 1995 Naimie’s Beauty Supply was the first retailer to carry Parian Spirit, and Universal and Paramount were the first studios to request volume orders. In 1997 Parian Spirit attended the first IMATS convention, sharing a booth with Japonesque and Art Anthony. Parian Spirit has been a regular at the Pasadena IMATS ever since. Parian Spirit has been the branded brush cleaner of Nordstom’s, Japonesque, and Urban Decay. And is currently the house brand of Sephora in their Sephora Collection as "Ctrus Brush Cleaner by Parian Spirit," also Lancome uses Parian Spirit as their counter kit brush cleaner.
